Chapter 5 - CP
After finishing my lunch outside, I moved straight into the living area of the camper van.
I slouched lazily onto the L-shaped sofa, letting my body sink into it.
Since the interior of the camper van was spacious, I could relax inside as if I were at home.
As expected, camper vans really are the best.
By the way, I hadn’t washed any of the dishes I used for lunch.
Even though I knew it would be a hassle if I didn’t wash them right away, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I guess that’s just how hopelessly lazy I am.
For now, I just wanted to bask in this blissful feeling of satisfaction.
As I was zoning out on the sofa, I noticed a large device sitting on the table.
"Come to think of it, what happened to the device I brought over here?"
I hadn’t checked it yesterday because too many things were happening.
When I checked my smartphone in my pocket, it turned on, but the signal was completely blocked.
"...I guess the internet’s a no-go, huh?"
Being in another world, it made sense that the internet didn’t exist here.
It would’ve been nice if I could use the internet even in this world, though.
"Well, let’s check this one out just in case."
I pulled the large device on the table closer and touched it with my finger.
The screen lit up, displaying information like the equipment installed in the camper van.
"Huh? What’s this?"
It was completely different from the home screen I had imagined.
Originally, this was supposed to be an entertainment device for enjoying manga, anime, and movies while relaxing in the camper van. But all of those features were gone, replaced with a strange new interface.
Looking more closely, I saw various graphs and numbers on the screen. It showed not only the remaining levels of fuel, electricity, and water but also the current status of the solar panels and even indoor temperature, humidity, and air pressure.
It seemed that this device was meant to manage the camper van’s entire system.
As I continued fiddling with the device, new options like "Shop" and "Vehicle Add-ons" appeared.
Curious, I tapped on the Shop option, and a familiar-looking online shopping site popped up.
I tried touching a displayed anpan (*Japanese sweet roll) as a test, and a message appeared saying it would cost 10 CP to purchase.
I wasn’t sure what kind of points this "CP" was, but when I pressed the purchase button, an anpan appeared right in front of me.
"I can actually buy things!"
When I unwrapped and ate it, it tasted exactly like the ones I’d had countless times at Japanese supermarkets.
Looking through the Shop, I saw that not only food and water but also everyday goods and outdoor gear could be purchased.
"Whoa! I want this butterfly chair!"
My eyes landed on a state-of-the-art outdoor chair from a historic American furniture maker.
I pressed the purchase button to try buying it.
A message popped up: "You don’t have enough CP to purchase this item. Please top up Camping Points."
"...What the heck are Camping Points?"
In the upper right corner of the screen, it showed 59,900 CP. When I tapped on it, the details about CP were displayed.
CP... CP can be obtained by offering magic stones to the device or by accumulating driving distance. With CP, you can purchase various items from the Shop. Additionally, vehicle functions can be added or upgraded.
"So, as long as I have CP, I can buy all sorts of stuff?!"
One of the major issues with keeping the camper van running was fuel.
To keep it moving, I needed diesel, but I doubted such fuel existed in this medieval European-style world. I had already been worrying about eventually running out.
The roof of the camper van was equipped with solar panels, and it had been customized so that even without diesel, it could run for a few minutes using a full day of solar power.
However, even on a perfectly sunny day, the panels could only generate about 5 to 8 kWh at most.
Since the camper van required a lot of energy to run, it needed at least 15 to 20 kWh to drive 100 kilometers in a day. Solar panels alone weren’t nearly enough to cover that. At best, they could only manage 3 to 5 minutes of driving per day.
Even so, it was better than not being able to drive at all. There was nothing more inconvenient than a camper van that couldn’t move freely.
I had been worrying about how to deal with the inevitable limits on how far I could drive, but if I could get this CP, maybe I could buy some diesel.
I decided to give the Shop a try, and sure enough, I could buy the diesel I needed for the camper van using CP.
"Awesome! I can buy diesel too!"
As long as I had CP, I could purchase diesel and keep the camper van running forever.
"The price for diesel is 155 CP per liter... It’s about the same as the average price in Japan."
When I looked more closely, I noticed that the price was listed as "current price," so it seemed like it could change a little depending on the date.
...Fuel matters are tough even in another world.
I currently have 59,990 CP, so if I used all of it for fuel, I could buy about 387 liters of diesel.
The camper van’s fuel efficiency was 6 to 9 kilometers per liter, so at the very least, I could drive about 2,322 kilometers.
If I were to compare it to Japan, that would be like driving from the tip of Hokkaido to the tip of Kyushu.
With that much driving range, I wouldn’t have to worry about fuel for a while, which was a relief.
"...But the problem is, how do I get these magic stones?"
According to the king, princess, and the tavern employee, monsters—some kind of creatures—were roaming around and attacking people in this world.
Inside these monsters were magic stones. These stones contained the monsters’ mana and could be used to craft various items like weapons and magical tools.
To get magic stones, I’d have to defeat monsters.
But my level was 1.
I didn’t know the average stats for people in this world, but being level 1 meant my stats were probably pretty low.
I had left the kingdom quickly because I wanted to get away from the heroes and the king, but I might have made a mistake.
I should have stayed a little longer in the town, gathered some information, leveled up enough to defend myself, and ensured my safety before leaving the country.
If I ran into a monster now...
—Thud, thud.
"W-what’s that?!"
As I was thinking in a negative direction, I suddenly heard a sound like something hitting the camper van.
I jumped up and pressed myself against the window, and there, outside, was a small creature with green skin.
"...Could it be a goblin?"
It had pointed ears, an aquiline nose, and a grotesque face with a large mouth and uneven teeth.
Its body was strangely skinny, with a small potbelly. It wore ragged cloth around its waist and was holding a club in its right hand.
"Wait, did it hit my camper van with that club?!"
Considering the sound of something hitting the vehicle and the club in the goblin's hand, it was clear that the noise had come from the goblin striking my camper van.
How dare it! I hadn’t even had the camper for a month yet. To have the body scratched on the first use was such a mood killer.
I wanted to check the vehicle right away, but since the goblin was outside, I couldn’t just go out carelessly.
"I-is it really a goblin?"
It looked exactly like the typical monster goblin from fantasy manga and games, but it was also possible that this world had its own unique species or creature that resembled it.
To find out for sure, I activated my appraisal skill.

The stats appeared in my vision.
"...It’s a goblin."
