Chapter 6 - Vehicle Add-ons
"...It’s a goblin."
Unfortunately, that thing was a monster, so there was no chance of reconciling by talking.
Its level was 3, higher than mine, but fortunately, its stats were low.
If we clashed head-on, I might be stronger, but I was just an ordinary person who could only summon and drive a camper van.
Even though it was a monster smaller than me, I didn’t think I’d be able to fight it properly.
For now, I quickly closed the curtains and locked the door so the goblin couldn’t get inside the camper van.
I stayed still, holding my breath inside the camper van, but I could still sense the goblin outside.
I slightly opened the gap in the curtains to peek outside, and the goblin was staring at the table, chairs, and dishes I had left behind.
The goblin must have been interested in the plate that still had the scent of sirloin steak. It sniffed the air, bringing its big nose close, and eventually stuck out its tongue to lick the leftover sauce.
"Ugh, that plate’s not usable anymore..."
Having a filthy creature like that, which reminded me of a dirty old man, lick the plate made it impossible to want to use it again. Even if I managed to retrieve it, that plate would be thrown away.
Still, the goblin wasn’t leaving. Would it just go away already?
I wanted to recover my favorite table and chair.
That said, all that was outside were just camping gear.
I wouldn’t trade my life for those, so if it came to it, I was prepared to abandon them and escape.
There wasn’t any immediate danger for now, but I couldn’t help wondering if there was a way out of this.
"Now that I think about it, there was those additional vehicle features on the device, right?"
Besides the Shop, the device had an option to add some kind of feature to the camper van.
If I operated that and added a feature, maybe I could deal with the goblin outside.
I touched the device on the table and selected the [Vehicle Add-ons] option, not the "Shop." The screen switched, revealing several new options.
"Barrier," "Stealth," "Seat Operation," "Wall Operation," "Tire Repair," "Body Repair," "Engine Repair," "Engine Enhancement," "Body Enhancement," "Interior Purification," "Body Purification," "Item Box," "Instant Fuel Refill," "Automatic Water Refill," "Wall Walking," and several other features appeared.
[Barrier]...I could deploy a barrier around the camper van that would prevent anyone other than the user from entering.
"This is it!"
I touched the option that seemed most likely to resolve my current situation.
[It costs 50,000 CP. Do you want to purchase it?]
"Ugh! I need 50,000 CP for that?!"
I wanted to keep as much CP as possible for the camper van’s diesel.
If I spent 50,000 CP now, I’d be left with only 9,900 CP, which would only get me 64 kilometers even if I poured all of it into diesel.
While I hesitated at the hefty CP cost, the camper van was suddenly struck hard again.
"Gugyagya?"
I could feel the goblin moving around outside the camper van.
It seemed that its attention had shifted from the camping gear to the camper van.
If it kept hitting the camper van with a club, it might break.
One of the add-on features could repair the camper van’s body, but when I glanced at it, I saw it was very expensive, and I couldn’t afford it with my current CP.
For now, the camper van might just get dented, but if it kept getting hit, who knew what could happen. If the camper van broke, I wasn’t even sure if I could resummon it with my skill.
"To hell with it! Better to do it and regret it than to not do it and regret it!"
Even if I made it through this, I would likely encounter more monsters on my journey ahead.
So, it would be wise to get the [Barrier] feature now, so I could camp safely.
And more than that, I couldn’t stand seeing my newly bought camper van get hit over and over.
I pressed the purchase button and immediately activated the [Barrier] feature.
Then, I felt something expanding around the camper van.
"Gugyaa?!"
I opened the curtains and looked outside. A translucent dome-shaped barrier had sent the goblin flying.
Cautiously, I stepped outside, and saw that a membrane about ten meters in radius had spread out around the camper van.
I reached out from inside and touched the membrane. A ripple spread across it. There was no particular sensation.
It seemed that, as the user, I was unaffected by it.
"Gugya! Gugyagya!"
As I observed the barrier, the goblin, who had been thrown outside, let out an enraged shout.
It seemed it didn’t appreciate being bounced away by the translucent wall.
The goblin raised its club and struck it against the barrier.
However, my barrier didn’t budge at all, and the goblin fell backward onto its rear from the recoil.
The goblin continued to strike the barrier with its club, but it didn’t leave a single scratch on the membrane.
I watched the goblin for about three minutes, and eventually, it seemed to run out of stamina. It panted heavily and collapsed to the ground, sitting there.
It looked like a petulant child, but with its ugly face, it didn’t look cute at all.
With the barrier ensuring my safety, I quickly gathered my camping gear outside and stored it in the external storage compartment. Then, I hastily checked the camper van’s condition.
"Ah! There are scratches on the body!"
It seemed that the goblin had struck the camper van with its club in an unguarded moment, leaving two small scratches on the vehicle. Thankfully, the body wasn’t dented, and the scratches weren’t too noticeable, but it dented my heart to see damage on my brand-new van.
"How dare you..."
"Gugyagyagya!"
"This bastard..."
I glared at the goblin from inside the barrier, and it laughed mockingly at me.
I wanted to punch it, but I didn’t have the courage to step outside the barrier.
"You know you can’t get in here anymore, right? Go away already."
I said this, but the goblin stubbornly sat outside the barrier, as if determined not to move.
It seemed like it was waiting for me to deactivate the barrier.
Fortunately, the barrier could be maintained without consuming CP.
The camper van was stocked with preserved food and water, and I could always buy more if I spent some CP. I could camp here for as long as needed, but I had no intention of staying here forever.
Since the barrier couldn’t be deployed while moving, I had no choice but to wait for the goblin to leave before I could depart.
With a sigh, I returned to the camper van and climbed into the driver’s seat.
When I started the engine, the goblin’s yellow, eerie eyes widened.
After fastening my seatbelt and preparing to drive, I honked the horn as loud as I could.
"Gyagya?!"
Startled by the unknown loud noise, the goblin jumped into the air and fled like a rabbit.
"Hahaha! Serves you right!"
I laughed as I watched the goblin scurry away with a look of fear on its face.
After deactivating the barrier, I drove off in the camper van.
